When there is so much to look at on our screens, why should we pause and look at our own minds? "There's an app for that" seems to be the mantra of our time, but one thing that there's not an app for is true mindfulness.
One of the most influential Tibetan Buddhist teachers today, Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche is coming to Kauai to talk about true mindfulness and how it can change our lives He's giving a public talk called "Finding Joy in Troubled Times" on Thursday, May 19 from 7 pm -9pm at St. Michaels Church, 4364 Hardy Street, Lihue, HI.
Khentrul Rinpoche grew up in Tibet where he became a monk at the age of seven. Since then, he has studied the mind and how our happiness lies within our mind. He is now sharing what he learned with the world.
The talk is geared towards educators, health care providers, social workers, students and anyone interested in learning how to positively develop their mind and the world around them.
Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche is the abbot of a monastery in Tibet where he is responsible for over 300 monks and 100 children for whom he provides food, lodging, education, a temple and other facilities. In addition, he offers support to a few other monasteries in that region.
Rinpoche has been in the United States since 2003 from which time he has established over twenty practice and meditation centers across North America. He travels and teaches continuously for eight months of the year, including Hawaii, where he has students on Oahu, Kauai and Maui. Rinpoche visits the island annually.
His main retreat center is in the Ozark Mountains in Northwest Arkansas. While all of these groups practice meditation and other techiniques for cultivating the mind to transfrom and improve their lives, there is an emphasis on helping others and each participates in Compassion in Action, a community outreach program to help local communities. These are just a couple of his numerous programs in North America.
